For you—and your family.

Getting these decisions right before an accident could affect your life significantly.
The laws you need to know
Enjoy the full freedom of the road.
Motorcycle laws and statutes are different in each state—and they’re constantly evolving. In Virginia, these laws affect everything from the use of unapproved motorcycle accessories to motorcyclists’ rights to use the HOV lane—a right we fought for in Virginia.
As part of our service to motorcycle riders in Virginia, we maintain up-to-date, annotated versions of state laws and statutes for Virginia, as well as several other states where we practice.
Getting accurate information starts by choosing a trusted source, and our Virginia motorcycle accident lawyers are immersed in these laws on a daily basis.
Motorcycle Safety in Virginia
Enjoying the ride means staying safe.
We all take safety seriously. Still, knowing which factors affect motorcycle safety in Virginia can help ensure that you enjoy the ride, whether that’s in the foothills of the Appalachians or along the coast in Virginia Beach.
According to data from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), motorcycle accident fatality risks are highest among those aged 46–60, accounting for 40.3% of all fatalities in 2014, while risk of injury is greatest for a younger demographic, 21–35, which accounted for 37.5% of all injuries.
Not every accident can be prevented. Virginia DMV data also notes that there was “No Violation” in 39.8% of all motorcycle accidents. Still, when it comes to the factors that motorcyclists control—and this should come as no surprise—the two leading causes of accidents are following too closely (6.98%) and excessive speed (5.87%). Alcohol was a factor in an estimated 5.60% of all accidents.
